Here is a little lesson. If you plan on drinking all day long, you must make sure to rotate your alcoholic beverage of choice with some water. If you don’t do that you will be very sorry, as I was when I drank about a 12 pack of beer throughout the day, without really drinking any water. I will never make that mistake again. Never. Way to ruin a romantic weekend…. Well, almost…
This isn’t about the fact that I drank way too much on our first night at Put-in-Bay, this is about the amazing club sandwich and French fries that saved my life – made me feel normal.
After a day of drinking I woke up the next morning severely hungover. So hungover that I couldn’t even keep water down…for 6 hours. Yeah, it was that bad. Luckily I have an awesome husband who just ignored that fact that I had to keep running to the bathroom every 30 minutes and reassured me that he still loved me and I wasn’t ruining our romantic weekend.
Finally after praying to the porcelain god and taking a nice hot shower I started feeling somewhat normal, but still queasy. We had promised our friend Mike, who works at Put-in-Bay Brewing Co., that we would stop by and see him and have lunch. We had checked out their menu the night before when we stopped in for drinks and couldn’t wait to try their food.
I was slightly terrified to even eat anything but I knew that I had to eat something. I checked over the menu and my stomach rumbled it’s displeasure with me. After much consideration I decided on the Brew Pub Club with French fries, which was Dave’s suggestion. (How could I pass up something with bacon, when as soon as you walk into the bar the smell of bacon was wafting through the air.) I chugged down my Diet Coke and waited patiently, but still slightly terrified for my food. Once my food arrived, I was blissfully happy.
Just look at this beauty…
Dave ordered the nachos which looked amazing and he said that they were amazing (I wasn’t going to try to tempt fate with that spicy salsified goodness).
After the first few bites of my sandwich I started to feel slightly better. The more and more I ate the better I felt. The Brew Pub Club tasted amazing. I am a big fan of bacon and there was the perfect amount on it. The French fries were ah-mazing too. They had a similar appearance to McDonald’s fries but the taste was 100 times better. Dave was even snatching my fries when I wasn’t paying attention. I could’ve just enjoyed a basket of fries and been perfectly content too!
The atmosphere was very relaxed and casual. It was my kind of place. There was a big screen at one end of the main bar where sports fans could watch whatever game was on. There was also a patio area where you could still sit inside but there wasn’t a wall on one end. It gives you the feeling being outside, but still covered. There were plenty of tables and bar stools for anyone that wanted to join you. We hung out on the patio the first night we were there and it was a great place to people watch.
Since this is also a brewery we made sure to test out some of the House Brews. Now, I am totally lame and only drink Coors Light, but Dave is a big fan of beer, well alcohol period, so he loves taste testing new beers. You can purchase sampler platters which give you a choice of your choice of beers. Dave is a big fan of dark beers and he fell in love with the Pass Out Bourbon Stout. It is an Oatmeal Stout aged with Kentucky Bourbon. I am not a fan of dark beers but this was great. Dave says it is about the best damn Bourbon Stout that he has ever had and he has tried a lot of Bourbon Stouts. He would travel to PIB just for the beer.
The employees were so friendly too. Not only did we get to hang out with our bartender friend, Mike, we also were able to meet some of the other employees.
We also met a great employee by the name of Emily, but I failed to get her picture.
I would suggest that the next time you are in Put-in-Bay that you run, don’t walk, to the Put-in-Bay Brewing Co. It is definitely worth a visit. Make sure to keep an eye out for Mike, Becca and Emily. Heck we liked them all so much we went out to dinner with them!
*I was not compensated in any way for this review! We just loved it so much we wanted to tell the world about it!
